Classroom Policies and expectations
Either at meet the teacher night or the following day, each of you received a packet with general classroom rules and expectations. I will reiterate the basics here, and you can find the original notice by clicking the file below.
THEME
This year's school wide theme is "Be the light of Christ." Students drew images of light in class, and we will be discussing how we can behave and what we can do to be the light of Christ. Please discuss the theme at home and feel free to share with me any ideas you have to help the students understand and embrace the theme.
HOMEWORK
Homework is assigned Monday-Thursday and must be completed in the afternoon or evening on the day it is assigned. It will be handed in to the bin the following morning. Along with regularly assigned homework, students will read for at least 20 minutes each night. A reading log will be given to the each student and will be kept in the student's homework folder. The adult who observes the child must sign the reading log. Homework is to be completed neatly and accurately. I assign homework that is a review of classwork, and I also go over the homework with the students each day. Therefore, students should feel comfortable with the homework and should be able to complete it independently.
BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
Students are expected to be prepared for school with all the supplies necessary for a successful day. Students will be positively rewarded for good behavior and will follow a 3-strike policy for negative, disrespectful behavior. Students who do not complete classwork on time due to lack of focus or effort will be expected to complete that work during recess or for homework. The same is true for incomplete homework. There are no toys from home allowed in 2B. Toys will be confiscated and returned when I decide the student is ready.
MORNING ROUTINE
At 7:30 each morning students will report directly to the gym where they will participate in a whole school assembly. Students will then file directly to the classroom to complete their morning work. It is imperative that students are on time for school so that they can join the assembly and do their morning work. Incomplete morning work due to tardiness will be finished during snack and recess. Students arriving after 7:45 are considered tardy.
